An SUV struck a kid riding a bicycle in West Amarillo early Tuesday morning.

The day started off in panic and terror for the family of a 10 year-old boy. The Amarillo Police Department received a call around 7:50 am about an SUV striking a bicyclist. When officers arrived on scene they found the one riding the bicycle was a 10 year-old boy.

The accident happened on SW 16th and S. Georgia St. A 2012 GMC Terrain was driving southbound when the vehicle struck the boy. He was transferred to the hospital at first with life threatening injures, since then it has been confirmed the boys injuries were not life threatening.

The boy was wearing a helmet. The Traffic Investigation Squad of the Amarillo Police Department is currently investigating the accident.
