Amarillo’s art community is thriving for a town of our size, and our entertainment sector goes above and beyond when it comes to performing arts. With live music of every genre across our lively local bar scene and a well-known symphony and opera, it should come as no surprise that our little slice of Texas is just as diverse when it comes to the theatre.

We have, of course, our renowned musical Texas, which takes place in Palo Duro Canyon, and high-quality productions regularly come out of both West Texas A&M and Amarillo College, but for those looking to add something more to their Amarillo theatre experience, Amarillo Little Theatre (ALT) has just what you’re looking for. With a new production nearly every month (spanning various genres), ALT offers something fresh and fun for date night, family night, and drama-lovers alike.

Ticket prices for the 2018-2019 season are reasonably-priced whether you want to purchase them individually ($18/ticket), invest in one of the ticket packages (four packs: $61-$69, five packs: $75-$85, full season packs: $136-$154), or even become a donating member (you’ll receive anywhere from 20-40 admissions per season along with recognition in the playbill, advance reservations, and opening-night invitations); plus, the company also offers both dance classes and theatre classes for varying age groups (younger-elementary, older-elementary, and high-school), so make sure to get your aspiring performers signed up!

This month, don’t miss out on ALT’s take on the darkly comical musical, Into the Woods. With a stage debut in 1986 and a silver-screen revival in 2014, Into the Woods tells a lively yet macabre tale of the quests/adventures of classic fairytale characters from “Jack and the Beanstalk,” “Little Red Riding Hood,” “Cinderella,” and “Rapunzel” while exploring the interactions of the characters with each other and the possible outcomes and consequences of these crossovers.

Showtimes for this production started this previous weekend, with the first performance on Friday the 13th, and they will be running another full weekend with performances at 7:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday (the 20th & 21st) and 2:30 p.m. on Sunday (the 22nd).

Don’t forget to add Amarillo Little Theatre to your date-night itinerary soon!
