Sugarland was scheduled to begin their video deposition today (April 12) concerning the August 13 Indiana State Fair tragedy and the lawsuits suggesting that they resisted delaying the start of their show. Since the collapse that killed seven and injured dozens more, fingers have been pointed at everyone from Sugarland to Mid-America Sound Corp, the company that owned the stage and the light rigging. But the band says no one cares more about getting this resolved than they do.
As a celebrity coach on NBC’s hit show ‘The Voice,’ Blake Shelton spends most of his time sitting alongside his fellow coaches in his futuristic-looking red swivel chair that has become such an integral part of the show. But next week, the laid-back country coach will be taking a break from his chair-warming duties to join his four remaining team members onstage. Though Shelton has a slight advantage over his team members (he can’t get voted off), he will be stepping into their shoes Monday night (April 16) for a joint performance.
Kelly Clarkson, Sugarland‘s Jennifer Nettles, Lionel Richie and Robin Thicke all have one thing in common right now (and no, it’s not their super successful recording careers). They’re each scouring the nation for the very best singers to join their teams on the upcoming ABC show ‘Duets.’ And though the show doesn’t officially premiere until May, the artists are already getting a major start on choosing their team members.
Her father may be a football legend, but recording artist Rachel Bradshaw did inherit musical genes from Terry Bradshaw. The younger Bradshaw, who came to Nashville from her native Texas to study music at Belmont, has signed a record deal with Bigger Picture Group. In an interview with the Associated Press, Rachel explained that this has always been her goal ever since she came to Belmont as a freshman.
Wednesday night (April 11) marked the night of the Top 7 on ‘American Idol,’ and first up to the stage was country crowd-pleaser Skylar Laine with Kellie Pickler’s hit Didn’t You Know How Much I Loved You.’
In his single ‘Tattoos on this Town,’ Jason Aldean weaves a tale of memories made in a small town, comparing them to tattoos. The lyric that ends the first verse inspired Natchez, Miss. resident Keith Partridge to craft the perfect marriage proposal idea.
Keith Urban‘s fans may have been disappointed when the ‘For You’ singer had to postpone his annual All for the Hall benefit concert due to vocal cord surgery. Though the concert was originally set to take place mid-January, Urban’s vocal rest caused him to reschedule the annual Country Music Hall of Fame fundraiser for tonight, April 10. And while fans had to wait three months for the event, Urban went out of his way this morning to make it well worth their while.
To say that Jake Owen had quite the week last week would be a vast understatement. The country singer with Floridian roots saw his single ‘Alone With You‘ climb to the No. 1 spot on Billboard’s Country Songs chart, where it’s still sitting pretty above the rest. Whether it was because Owen was already on top of the world or because he felt especially emotional playing for his hometown Vero Beach, Fla. crowd, Owen went ahead and popped the question to girlfriend Lacey Buchanan on Saturday night (April 7).
This week, country stars Justin Moore and Miranda Lambert tweeted their disapproval for Ashton Kutcher’s dress and performance at last weekend’s ACM Awards. And while Lambert primarily mentioned that she thought Kutcher may have been poking fun rather than coming at the country genre in sincerity, Moore was quite a bit more candid with his thoughts, ending with, “I don’t care for people making a mockery of the way country artists’ dress.”
In 2000, young singer Billy Gilman exploded onto the music scene as a 12-year-old with a killer voice and the musical chops to take him places. He released a debut record called ‘One Voice,’ sold more than 2 million copies and then had to take a step back from the industry when puberty put a crimp in his vocal style. Now, almost 12 years later, Gilman has found his voice again, and he’s choosing to use it for the sake of others.
Kenny Chesney and Tim McGraw have been seeing a good bit of each other lately, as the two polish their boots in preparation for their upcoming Brothers of the Sun Tour, which kicks off June 2 in Tampa, Fla. Plus, the pair of country studs hit the ACM stage this past weekend (Sunday, April 1) to perform their new joint single ‘Feel Like a Rock Star.’ And then today (April 4), the two took their rocking single to the stage of ‘The Ellen DeGeneres Show.’
‘American Idol‘ has been featuring some of their successful alums in recent episodes, with names like Scotty McCreery and Lauren Alaina taking the stage as of late to show this season’s hopefuls just what a career in music can look like. Now, another ‘Idol’ country success story — Kellie Pickler — is gearing up to take the stage, and she announced the news over Twitter… but without giving everything away to her fans right away.
