This weekend, George Strait walked onstage at his Kansas City, Mo. show to meet 18,000 fans eagerly awaiting his performance. The country music veteran stepped up to the mic with his guitar and went through the motions of starting a show, just like he knows so well how to do. But after two songs, the seasoned talent had to cut the show short, admitting he was too sick to continue.
Rascal Flatts just released the music video for their single ‘Banjo,’ which hails from their upcoming record ‘Changed,’ available everywhere April 3. In the clip, the guys seem to be having a good time, each playing a different part. Gary LeVox steps into the shoes of a bus driver, taking the wheel of a downtown Nashville tourist bus that has ‘Music Line Tours’ emblazoned on the side.
One of the most awe-inspiring stories we’ve seen in a long time continues to get better and better. After New Jersey senior Kevin McGuire, who is currently fighting cancer for the second time, asked Taylor Swift to be his prom date, the country superstar came back with a shocking invitation, asking to take McGuire to the ACMs with her in April. In the video below, CBS Philly captured the 18-year-old’s reaction when he heard the news from his hospital bed at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.
Carrie Underwood just released the first single from her new record on Thursday (Feb. 23), debuting the song ‘Good Girl‘ at the Country Radio Seminar in Nashville and through iTunes. The next day, Underwood performed at a 2012 Oscars launch party in Beverly Hills, where she offered up a killer acoustic version of the song with a live band, which you can see in the clip below.
Miranda Lambert’s On Fire Tour took her to Greensboro, N.C. this week, where she stepped totally out of the box and included a cover we’ve yet to see a country artist take on: Lady Gaga‘s ‘You and I.’ Lambert whipped out a killer performance of the song, adding enough of her sass and grit to make it sound like a Lambert or Pistol Annies original made famous by a pop star.
Yesterday (Feb. 23) we reported that Taylor Swift had received a prom invitation from New Jersey high school senior Kevin McGuire, who is currently battling cancer for the second time. On McGuire’s Facebook event page, which now has hundreds of thousands of fans, the teen’s older sister put out a plea asking the beautiful young starlet to take her brother to his high school prom, which coincidentally falls on his birthday. Since then, we’ve all been waiting eagerly to see if and when and how Swift would respond. That wait has finally ended.
Who doesn’t love going to a great concert and then getting surprised by another great performer, who joins the one you’re there to see? What about two additional unexpected performers? Carrie Underwood is getting ready to perform at the Nordstrom Symphony Fashion Show, a sold-out event that will take place at Nashville’s Schermerhorn Symphony Center on Feb. 28. The show, which will feature an exclusive presentation of Oscar de la Renta’s Pre-Fall 2012 collection, will also showcase a performance by Underwood. Yesterday (Feb. 22), George Strait made a guest appearance at the Universal Music Group label luncheon show at Nashville’s Country Radio Seminar, which was held at the Ryman Auditorium. Though King George wasn’t listed as an act for the event, he came out as the first performer and stunned a crowd that quickly cheered, stood and clapped to show their approval. The audience primarily consisted of radio station personnel, all of whom were surprised by Strait’s presence.
In August, Taste of Country reported that a New York woman had been arrested after a Darien Lake, N.Y. Rascal Flatts show for striking another person in the face while holding her iPhone, which caused lacerations to the victim’s face. Now, six months later, 33-year-old Carolyn Marie Smith has filed a claim against the Genesee Country Sheriff’s Office stating that she was the victim of a false arrest.
Texas native Wade Bowen recently released an acoustic video for his chart-climbing single ‘Saturday Night.’ The video is just somber enough to fit with the sad feel of the song. Shot all in black and white, it simply shows Bowen sitting on a stool in a large empty room playing his guitar, or standing in front of a window with a train passing by.
