Lennon and Maisy Bring Attention to Hateful Letter Left for Parents of Autistic Boy

A family friend of singers and ‘Nashville’ actors Lennon and Maisy Stella recently received a letter about their autistic teenager that has left neighbors, activists and just about anyone who reads it furious. Note: The language may offend some readers.

Toronto’s City News interviewed the family of 13-year-old Max Begley. They say he has severe autism, but really enjoys time outside playing. “You selfishly put your kid outside everyday and let him be a nothing but a nuisance and a problem to everyone else with that noise polluting whaling he constantly makes !!!” a portion of the hate letter reads.

The error-filled rant refers to the teen as an “idiot kid” and “retarded” before suggesting that the family either move, or euthanize him. No one signed the letter (seen below), and there was no return address on the envelope, which was sent to Max’s grandmother’s home in Newcastle, Ont. That’s where Max spends his summer mornings.

The boy’s mother says he has a habit of running off if he goes to the park, so the fenced-in yard is where he is safe. Karla Begley has Multiple Sceloris and says she can’t keep up with her son. “Right now I’m scared for my son’s safety,” his father reveals.

Thankfully, there’s been a semi-happy ending to the story — which actually seems far from over, as the family doesn’t know who sent the letter. The neighborhood is banding together to support Max and his family. They’re looking to find who wrote the note while proving the teen is more than welcome.

Lennon and Maisy shared a picture of the mailed note on their Twitter page. It has since gone viral.
