Man Who Confesses On YouTube, Pleads NOT Guilty In Court [VIDEO]

Last week, we were all awed by 22 year old Matthew Cordle uploading a full confession on YouTube.  He owned up to killing Vincent Canzani, a 61-year-old veteran, in a drunk driving accident.  But in court yesterday, his lawyers put in a plea of not guilty.

When Cordle put his confession on YouTube, I was in disbelief.  It isn’t often that someone steps up and takes responsibility like he did.  I immediately thought was a great message and inspiration for others to do good and own their mistakes.

Yesterday, he went to court and his lawyers entered a plea of not guilty.  I immediately thought, after all the attention of over 1.9 million views, his confession was a joke.  I thought he fooled us all.

His lawyer, George Breitmayer, immediately made a statement saying:

“The reason we entered the not guilty plea is so there is no allegations that we chose a particular judge for a particular reason,” Breitmayer said. “This way it’s completely random.”

So the guilty plea was a formality to insure that the trial is fair.  Cordle still plans on pleading guilty and spreading the message on the danger of drinking and driving.

The daughter of Vincent Canzani doesn’t believe Cordle is sincere.  She thinks the video was a tactic used to get a lighter sentence.

If it says anything about Cordle, his bond was set at $225,000.  He chose not to post bail.  He said he will stay in jail and honor what he said in his video.

The night of the accident, Cordle’s blood alcohol level was 0.191, more than double the state’s legal limit.  He will be charged with an open count of aggravated vehicular homicide and one count of operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs.  That means he could face up to 8 1/2 years in jail.

What do you think?  Do you think the video was a ploy to get a lighter sentence?

Here is an interview done with NBC News minutes before he turned himself in on Tuesday.
