4th of July Celebration comes to Amarillo’s Hamlet School Park

Last week we took at a few of the fireworks shows coming to town and even what to expect if you fire them off at your own place and by the way there's no shortage of places to buy them. If you're like me though you would rather someone else do all the work so you can sit back and just enjoy the show. APD is putting on a fireworks show this year at Hamlet School Park

The Neighborhood Police Unit is hosting the event that has just about everyone who's anyone with Amarillo Police out including the chief. They hope events like these help build trust with community leaders and give community members a chance to meet the officers who serve their community. Sergeant Wesley Brown with APD spoke to our news partner ABC 7 and went on the record

"It is a good opportunity for people to connect with the police department because it is their police department. It is all of us that are in this together and so, trying to bridge that gap with them, with that neighborhood is really what is important for us,"

According to Amarillo Police, The 4th of July event will feature Games, Food and a chance to see some of the vehicles that first responders use. There was an incident last year where an officer was injured, but according to officials it doesn't represent the community and they look forward to the event. If you're interested Hamlet School park is on Amarillo's northside at 705 Sycamore (at the corner of Oak and Sycamore). It's free to the public and runs from 4 to 10pm.
