Christmas time is here and in full effect! I love this time of year! If you're looking for some fun things to do here in Amarillo during Christmas, then I've got a great list for ya!

When the weather starts to change and all the leaves are gone, that's when I start getting excited. I love this time of year. There's just something nostalgic about the smell of wood-burning fireplaces and the cold crisp air.

Here are some amazing things about the holidays in Amarillo.

#1. Bishop Hills

This is one of the most nostalgic things that we do during the holidays. I remember loading up in the ol' fake wood paneled station wagon (yes, we really had one), and heading out to Bishop Hills. We would stop for hot chocolate and drive through multiple times, until my dad got tired of hearing us. Now, it's a great evening of fun that I take my wife and daughter on.

#2. Horse Drawn Carriage Rides

If you've ever driving through the Wolflin area during the holidays, you know that there are some of the most beautiful and rustic homes in the area. It also seems like everyone in that neighborhood has an amazing Christmas light display. Well, you can now take a horse drawn carriage right through one of the most beautiful parts of Amarillo on a Christmas light tour. They leave from the Zebra Striped building on Moss and Canyon E-Way. They start Dec 10th - Dec 12th and 17th - 23rd. More Information.

#3. Drinking Hot Cider

During this time of year you'll be hard pressed to find a coffee shop that isn't serving their own cider concoction. I love hot cider and nothing beats sitting outside in the cold crisp air with a hot cup of cider. This will make a great treat as you walk through the Amarillo Botanical Gardens while visiting their Christmas light display.

#4. "A Christmas Story" At The Amarillo Little Theatre

"A Christmas Story" is one of my favorite Christmas movies of all time. What a better way to celebrate the holidays than going to see it live. The ALT puts on this performance for most of December beginning on the 4th and stretching through the 21st. It makes for a great date or family night. Get all gussied up and head to the theater. More information.

#5. The Palo Duro Canyon Balloon Glow

Are you the type that enjoys being outdoors during the holidays? The Palo Duro Canyon Balloon Glow is an amazing sight to see. They provide snacks and hot chocolate and the entire night benefits the High Plains Food Bank. What a great way to spend a cold December evening? More Information
