A child under was hospitalized after suffering severe burns to his body, the babysitter failed to get the child medical attention.

Ismael Gardea Navarrette, 27, of Amarillo was arrested for "injury to a child" after he failed to seek medical attention for a child who suffered severe burns to his body.

The child, who is not being identified but is under the age of two suffered severe burns to his forehead, back and groin area. He was airlifted to the Lubbock Burn Unit for treatment.

Navarette is apparently the toddlers mother's boyfriend, he was in charge of watching the child while the mother was at work.

The mother found out about what happened at her child and tried to rush her child to the hospital. She stopped downtown at the Amarillo Police Department and got the attention of some officers after she noticed her toddler was having seizures. The child was rushed to the hospital and Navarrette remains in Jail on a $10,000 bond and faces up to 99 years in prison.
