‘American Idol': Laci Kaye Booth Handles Queen Night With Tender ‘Love of My Life’
Sunday night (Apr. 28) offered up a night fit for royalty on American Idol—rock royalty, that is, as the remaining Top 8 contestants were tasked with covering songs from classic heroes Queen's well-known catalog. Fittingly, the hopefuls were mentored by none less than the current Queen frontman, Adam Lambert, who's done the duty since 2011 and is himself an Idol alum (he was runner-up in Season 8).
One contestant who was clearly ready for the challenge was Laci Kaye Booth, who excitedly posted a photo of herself and Lambert ahead of the evening. She took the stage with a great choice for her ethereal, feminine style: 1979's "Love of My Life," which served as a memorable thread through 2018's multi-Oscar-winning biopic Bohemian Rhapsody and was no doubt top of mind for many viewers as a result.
Judge Lionel Richie was first to rave. "That smoky voice can just take you forever and forever in your career," he noted with admiration." That's one heck of a little vehicle you have there. And you can be fun with it."
Judge Katy Perry was even more effusive: "You are sparkling like the diamond we always knew you were. And the most shimmering thing is your voice. It's absolutely gorgeous.
"I think you've won," Perry amazingly jumped. "Whether you win or win, you've won."
Judge Luke Bryan was a bit more cautious, but did say, "Watching you sell the emotion of the song is one of the most impressive things I've seen since I've been judging."
America seemed to agree as well, voting Booth through to the Top 6 for another week.
