The coronavirus pandemic has obviously had a major impact on everyone's life. Some people have spent over a year barely leaving their homes which means they haven't had a lot of excitement in their life. At least not what we would normally call excitement.
According to a new study out of nearly 2,000 Americans, 32% say doing laundry has become the highlight of their week. Now don't get me wrong, I love the smell of a freshly laundered shirt. But there is nothing exciting about laundry, except for the clothes themselves, they look like they are having a great time.
According to the same study, 69% of people have said that any new experience feels like a thrill. I guess that would mean going to a new place to eat would be thrilling for many. What this new study really shows us is that people are tired of being at home and they are ready to live again.
Researchers find 44 percent say grocery shopping is now a surprisingly exciting moment in their lives. Thirty-five percent admit that filling up their gas tank now gives them a thrill like never before.
The desire to find a sense of escapism during this time is important for many. In fact, 59 percent of respondents say they’re at “the end of their ropes” due to ongoing isolation.
As a result, 62 percent add that, since March 2020, what they want out of a real vacation has shifted significantly. As soon as people feel safe to travel, 56 percent say they will go on the longest vacation of their entire lives.
That's good news for the tourism industry and it shows that we are ready to get on with life and get back to doing the things we love to do. Personally, I can't wait for my next big vacation.
