The coronavirus has taken another victim here in Amarillo. One of our favorite events of the year, the Amarillo Chamber of Commerce Good Times Celebration BBQ Cook-Off, has been cancelled for 2020. As much as I wanted to see this event go on this year, I can totally understand why they have to push it back until 2021. Can you imagine trying to social distance at this event? If you have been before, you will know what I mean.

For those who have never been, let me tell you, this event is huge every year. I once overheard someone say "there is not a cow or pig safe for a thousand miles from here." That quote is true - this cook-off is one of the biggest and best BBQ events I have ever attended. It takes up almost an entire city block and could easily double in size. When you are walking through the aisles, you are shoulder to shoulder with other BBQ lovers. That many people, so close together, does not work well when it comes to social distancing. And then there is the food - so much BBQ, sides, and desserts you could ever imagine.

While I am bummed that I won't be shoving my face with Happy State Corn, ribs, and jalapeno mac & cheese, I am determined to not let it get me down. In fact, I am going to use some time before Labor Day to perfect my own rib recipe. We might not be able to get together this year, but that won't stop me from having some good BBQ.
