Canyon Made National News For Craft Beer Controversy
We don't get recognized for anything normal around here.
Imperial Taproom opened on the Canyon square in September, bringing with it an environment totally new to the town. The restaurant serves over 70 craft beers, plus a full menu of unique dishes with Texas Panhandle flavors.
Most of the feedback from Canyon and Amarillo citizens about Imperial Taproom has been positive. However, a local church was particularly unhappy with the new business.
The Anchor of Hope Baptist Church took out an ad in the Canyon News to express their opinion about craft beer.
The original ad, which you can see in the Facebook post below, calls craft beer "The Devil's Craft" and asks, "Will we sell the youth of Canyon for the revenues of booze?"
Imperial Taproom responded by offering $1 off for every ad brought in to the restaurant.
This Facebook post was shared over 570 times and received over 1,000 likes.
The story caught the attention of Fox News. They published a story on October 12th titled, "Texas church's anti-craft beer ad backfires."
