Carrie Underwood Still Gets Nervous at the Start of the CMA Awards

2019 will mark the 12th year that Carrie Underwood has hosted the CMA Awards, so you'd think the gig would be no big deal for her by this point, right? Well, according to a new appearance on Good Morning America, Underwood still gets a little nervous before the big event.

"Well, so much happens, honestly, in the last few days," Underwood explains on the talk show, in response to a question about whether she was ready for the ceremony set to take place next Wednesday (Nov. 13). "So we've been going over scripts, things like that. Everybody's making adjustments, getting the timing and things. But it'll come together."

Even though she knows everything will fall into place by showtime, the singer admits she's always a little nervous. Despite her lengthy tenure as show host, she adds, she still feels a flutter of pre-show jitters every year.

"I'm always nervous for, like, the first five minutes," Underwood goes on to say. "And then it's like, 'Okay, this is just fine.' And the audience is great. You just get a good energy back, and it's Nashville. It's our home."

One major change in Underwood's hosting gig this year is that she'll be running the show without her longtime co-host, Brad Paisley. As part of the CMA's 2019 theme of highlighting legendary women within the genre, she'll share the gig with Dolly Parton and Reba McEntire. Underwood says she's excited to spotlight some of the women who inspired her to pursue music growing up, adding jokingly that the addition of Parton and McEntire to the hosting stand means three times as many outfit changes.

"I mean, between me and Reba and Dolly, can you imagine?!" she says. "The changes, and the fringe, and the rhinestones, and the hair ... all of it."

The 2019 CMA Awards are set for Nov. 13. The show will air live from Nashville's Bridgestone Arena on ABC beginning at 8PM ET.
