There are a lot of traditions that many people have in order to start the new year off right. They range from the resolution of getting healthy to eating black eyed peas and cornbread for good luck.

I have my list of resolutions, but I'm curious about the 'Eat Black Eyed Peas & Cornbread' for good luck. Can eating a certain food really bring you good luck? I have had periods in my life when I considered myself to have the worst luck of anyone on the planet, and now I consider myself to be the luckiest man alive.

I wonder if it is all just coincidence or has my luck really changed. And, if my luck has changed, is there anything I did or didn't do to cause it? I have friends who won't cross a black cats path, or walk under a ladder. They say that it's bad luck. I have friends who toss salt over their shoulder, they say it's good luck.

Then there is the all famous "Lucky Cigarette". This is when someone turns the first cigarette in a freshly opened pack upside down, then smokes that cigarette last. This, to me, is idiotic. I find the notion of a 'Lucky Cigarette' oxymoronic in its name alone. But, hey people are people.

I try not to be a 'supersticious' person, but I guess it couldn't hurt to eat some Black Eyed Peas & Cornbread. I like em' anyway, so why not. Now, if I can just get my wife and daughter to take a nibble. Maybe, just maybe it will bring on a winning lotto ticket or maybe just an amazingly fun and happy year together.

What ever you do to ring in the New Year, Enjoy! Have a great Year!
