Yesterday I put up a blog about using vinegar to prevent ice from building on your windshields.  I got a huge negative response saying that it will cause pits to form.  I have been using vinegar for years so I decided to do a little research.

I have used vinegar in my home for years.  It is safe for my son to be around and does an awesome job at cleaning.  So when I heard that it was harmful to car windows, I had to see for myself.

I looked all over the internet and 99% of the information I found was positive.  In fact, I found articles that say car detailers use vinegar to get your car's windows, upholstery and sometimes even the body super clean.

As far as using on your windshield, I've been cleaning my glass and mirrors with it for years and there has never been any damage.  It is safe for the environment and many people who "go green" use it because it is safe for the environment.

Another thing that doesn't make sense to me is the fact that vinegar is stored in glass bottles!  Windows are glass so what is the difference?  Imagine vinegar sitting in a glass bottle for months and years at a time.  Wouldn't the glass bottle be completely covered with pits?

My opinion is that it is safe and besides one company saying that it causes pits, I have found no evidence to back that up. I read every blog by this company and there is no explanation behind the theory, all they say is don't do it.  It is ultimately your decision to use or not.  But do your own research and see what you think.

Here are some other amazing ways to use vinegar in your everyday life!
