The holidays can be very stressful, especially when you just don't have the finances to put presents under the Christmas tree. Each year, The Salvation Army of Amarillo provides the Angel Tree. This provides assistance to families in need across Amarillo and the panhandle. Through The Salvation Army Angel Tree program, donors can give joy to a child in need during the holiday season. Every child deserves to experience the joy of Christmas morning. Through Angel Tree, local children will find gifts waiting under their Christmas trees.

Sign ups will begin October 14th at the Salvation Army Chapel at 2101 South Van Buren Street. You are asked to please not bring children to this application process. The first round will go from October 14th through October 18th, and a second sign up period will be from October 28th through November 1st. Families with children 13 years and younger can apply for the program. You must provide the following items during sign up:

  • A picture or government ID
  • Social security cards for all the household members
  • Birth certificates for all children 13 years of age and under receiving assistance
  • Proof of enrollment in a local school from children in K through age 13
  • If you are not the parent - proof of custody
  • If you receive SNAP - bring your benefit letter (no cards please)
  • If you're not on SNAP - bring proof of ALL monthly bills and income for the household

The Salvation Army’s Angel Tree program provides new clothing and toys for children of families in need through the support of donors like you. Found in local malls, companies and churches, Angel Trees are decorated with numbered paper angel tags with the first name, age and gender of a child in need of gifts. Contributors remove one or more tags from the tree and purchase appropriate gifts for the child or children described on the tags.

Once a child has been registered as an “Angel,” The Salvation Army makes a promise to provide Christmas for that child. This promise includes a variety of gifts for each child. In order to accomplish this, The Salvation Army depends on the generosity of individual donors, corporations and organizations.

If you would like more information on the application process or how you can donate, call the Salvation Army of Amarillo at (806) 373-6631.
