It seems like it's been awhile since the last time we heard about a wastewater spill in Amarillo. There was another one recently, and it has been contained.

What Happened

The spill happened at Hollywood and South Western. According to a press release from the City of Amarillo:

...was caused by a break in the force main piping of the related Lift Station.

Crews were able to repair the break yesterday, and the area is being cleaned and disinfected.

There were 115,000 gallons that was discharged into a drainage ditch.

What Exactly Was In The Spill

The wastewater was diluted commercial, industrial, and domestic wastewater. Basically a really gnarly concoction of waste that had been diluted.

It reminds me of the trash can punch certain sorority sisters used to serve at parties I went to in my early 20s.

The good news is that all of the wastewater was contained, according to the press release, and proper authorities have been notified. They're working property owners that were affected by the spill, according to the release.

What Happens Next

There will apparently be some sampling done. If there is any reason why the City should take action in the interest of public safety, then the City will do what needs to be done.

It seems like it wasn't too long ago that there were a few wastewater spills that all happened around the same time. Hopefully we aren't seeing a repeat and this will be an isolated incident.

Kudos to crews for working so quick. According to the press release, the lift station is back to normal operations.
