We talked about whether or not either of us had ever had to call the Police on a neighbor on the morning show. We both admitted that we are 'those people'--the ones who sit peeking out of the blinds when the police are across the street or down the block to watch what's happening... BUT--have either one of us actually picked up the phone and dialed 9-1-1 on a neighbor? I've done it a couple of times in my life over excessive noise at a very late hour of the night--like someone having a party and leaving the music up way too loud at 2am, or just extremely noisy guests. But that was before I lived here in Midland.

When I moved into the apartment I lived in temporarily before we bought our house-for the first month I was there by myself as my wife was back in Illinois taking care of wrapping up the sale of the house and taking care of any loose ends up there before the movers came to load us up and get us here. And there was one night that I had to call 9-1-1 on my upstairs neighbor at the apartment complex...

I lived on the second floor, and the building was three stories--so I had a couple with children in the apartment above me. There was the usual noise of small footsteps running across my ceiling at all hours--which didn't bother me as I'm a Dad and a step dad and kids don't bother me. However--one night at about 1am--I was awakened by screams from the wife that included "STOP!!! YOU'RE HURTING ME!!!!"... So I picked up the phone and dialed 9-1-1 and got the Police out there. He must have taken off right before they arrived, because the officers were out back in the brush in the dark of night with their flashlights looking for him hiding. Not sure if they ever found him, and I never heard a peep from upstairs again for the next two months til we moved out. I feel that if you hear that someone is in distress--it's your duty to step in somehow and help as best you can. I'm hoping they caught him, and that the lady and her babies are fine and are away from him.
