When it comes to speeding,  Texas is the most lenient state in the country.    If you are going to get caught speeding, you probably want to get caught speeding in Texas.

WalletHub conducted a survey to find which states were the strictest and the most lenient when it comes to speeding.   They studies the penalties for speeding and reckless driving in each state and D.C.   They analyzed 12 key metrics.  Those included what speed is considered reckless driving to how many speeding tickets it takes to get a license suspension.

It seems when it comes to speeding (and reckless driving) Texas is the most lenient state in the country.

Speeding and Reckless Driving Penalties in Texas (1=Strictest; 25=Avg.):

  • 26th – Speeding Automatically Considered Reckless Driving
  • 39th – Average Increase in Cost of Insurance After One Speeding Ticket
  • 10th – How Much Do Speeding Ticket Points Count Toward a Suspension
  • 10th – Minimum Jail Time (first reckless offense)
  • 13th – Minimum Jail Time (second reckless offense)
  • 47th – Maximum Fine (second reckless offense)

If you like to speed you definitely want to stay away from Delaware.  However, Oregon has the most expensive fines for speeding.
