There’s One Very Important Change We Need To Make To Elections

I'm all for you exercising your right to vote. I'm all for campaigns doing their best to get their message out to secure that vote.

There is one very important change we need to make to our elections, that didn't make it into this recent round of changes.

The Texts Are Worse Than People Knocking On Our Door With Good News

At one point we all joked about how annoying it was that some religious groups would knock on our door, unsolicited, and try to help us find salvation. Even if we already subscribed to some belief, these groups would keep coming back wanting to talk for just a moment about some good news they had.

Since 2020, not one of those groups has knocked on my door.

Instead my phone is constantly going off thanks to political campaigns and groups. You guys are ten times worse than the morally pure door-knockers of yesteryear.

It's Not Just One Party Or Group. It's All Sides.

I wish it was. It would probably cut down on the number of completely useless texts I get on a daily basis right now.

The worst is when I get a text message intended for someone else!

It's insane to me that a campaign would send a text message to my phone, intended for my ex-wife. I've had the same number for decades, and have been divorced for quite some time. I've even explained this to numerous campaigns.

Yet, somehow all sides of the aisle seem to get it wrong.

Can We, Should We, Put A Cap On Some Of This? Yes.

We already have advertisements running on TV, radio, in print, online, and there's plenty of memes running loose in our social media feeds. Why do we also need to get text messages?

"Just unsubscribe," I've heard some say. Try it and get back to me during the next election cycle. We've all tried to put ourselves on the "Do Not Call List" and somehow still get calls about extending our car's warranty.

What would make political campaigns any different?

Let's dial it back a bit. For all our sake. Please. Put a cap on how many different ways we can be bombarded during an election cycle.
