Vehicle Collided With Palo Duro Canyon Park Headquarters Causing Closure
As if there haven't been enough issues at Palo Duro Canyon State Park this year, today a new challenge presented itself. A vehicle collided with the park headquarters this morning, causing some structural damage, and now the headquarters will need to be closed while the damage is fixed. It's been a rough summer for Palo Duro Canyon State Park.
What Happened To The Park Headquarters At Palo Duro Canyon?
According to a park alert issued earlier today, a vehicle collided with the park headquarters, causing some structural damage. As you might have guessed, that means the park headquarters will be closed for a little while. After spending so much time this summer closing trails because of rain, this is the last thing I'm sure anyone wants to deal with.
The alert continues by saying that they will be operating out of the "shack" to the right of the headquarters for the time being. There's no mention of the extent of the damage, or how long repairs are expected to take.
There Is A Bright Side To The Story
Supposedly, there were no injuries in the collision that took place; which is fortunate and we're all glad to hear it. Also, the park will remain open. The park entrance is safe to use and is accessible to everyone. So, while the headquarters are on the mend, you'll still be able to visit the park.
The vehicle involved was supposedly an RV that got too close to the building.
One, it's good to hear there were no injuries. Two, it's great to hear that the park is open. When you head down to the canyon, just know that things will be a little different when you're entering the park. Have a little patience and understanding.
Updates And Reminder To Keep Watch For Park Alerts And Heat Advisories.
Also, the trails are open at the park, but you still need to keep an eye on heat advisories. According to another park alert that was issued today, trails are open after being closed due to rain; however, there are some trails closed during certain hours due to the excessive heat in the canyon.
They also updated the situation with the park headquarters. It sounds like the headquarters are back open, but the drive-thru window will remain closed. They'll still be operating out of the shack.
It's been a bit of an odd summer at Palo Duro Canyon this year. Hopefully, things will settle down soon. Keep watch for park alerts to stay on top of when trails are closed and reopened.
