Amarillo, Did You Know This Walgreens is Set to Close For Good?
It's been reported that Walgreens has to close some stores. It didn't affect anything in Amarillo at first. It seemed out of the several that we had. I think I counted about eight in Amarillo. It seemed that Amarillo was doing fine. Until it wasn't.
There was talk a few days ago that we were in fact losing one location. I heard from one person. Could it be true? I reached out to them and he used to work at Walgreens, not the location in question. So I thought I would keep searching for answers.
So our eight Walgreens will be becoming seven as of November 1st. That is when the Walgreens on Plains and Western - 1600 S Western will be closing.
When asked if that meant all Walgreens the response was:
Not sure but plains and western for sure - Roy
Yes, stores are shutting down nationwide and we for sure are losing one in Amarillo. The employees have been letting customers know of the closing. That does leave people in the area wondering where to go for their prescriptions. Luckily the next closest Walgreens is the one on Amarillo Boulevard. Most pharmacy customers are being directed to that one. It is another five-minute drive and about two miles away.
I know it is still close and there are still others. It is tough when you have a favorite location that might be just around the corner. They were once "at the corner of happy and healthy" because Walgreens is always a corner store. Which I guess I never paid attention to. They scrapped that slogan a while ago.
That corner for you may have gotten a bit further away. Hopefully, that is the only Walgreens leaving our city.
