Things just keep getting better for Don Harrington Discovery Center. To say they've been busy working to improve the place is an understatement.

It started with the acquisition of Wildcat Bluff Nature Center and bringing it under the DHDC umbrella. Now, they've created another partnership that will send it to another level, at least for a little while.

They have announced that they are partnering in the Blue Star Museums initiative and will be the ONLY Amarillo museum to be a part of it.

I know, you've probably never heard of this initiative, I know I hadn't. It's a partnership between the National Endowment for the Arts and Blue Star Families, and they collaborate with the Department of Defense and different museums across America.

Seems like a pretty cool deal, but we still don't know exactly what it means right? Dr. Maria Rosario Jackson, chair of the National Endowment for the Arts broke it down in more simpler terms for us. Jackson stated,

“By participating in the Blue Star Museums program, DHDC is offering military personnel and their families an opportunity to feel connected to the DHDC community and to explore the world through the power of arts, culture, and design, contributing to each person being able to live an artful life.”

Still a bit confused? I'll break it down further. It means veterans and military personnel currently serving out country along with their families will be getting free admission to DHDC from May 20 through September 4.

If you'd like more info as to what you'll need to present when you get there for free admission, all the info can be found on the DHDC Facebook page.
