Updates and Changes Come to an Amarillo Grocery Store

A lot of us in Amarillo aren't big fans of change. I know that it takes me a while to get used to something and think OK this is not so bad. Usually, that is the case but the recent change in Market Street over on Georgia Street really is not one of them.

I should have known that there were more changes on the way. I wasn't a big fan of the change in the produce area. It took me by surprise and took me a few minutes to figure out the lay of the land and find what I was looking for. Now, I can navigate the area and know exactly where to go.

Then there were the changes in the shopping carts. First, they were all equipped with anti-theft devices. I was OK with that. Then they took away my beloved green shopping carts and everyone of them turned orange. That wasn't my favorite move either. I should have known that they were not done.

Market Street has been my stop for grocery shopping since Homeland closed at 34th and Georgia. I have always lived in the area and I know it even took me a bit to embrace Market Street. Once I did it has been my favorite. The only real change that I am still not over is them moving the location of the bread. That was what I refer to as bread-gate. Now I can't for sure tell you where it used to be I just know I still have to hunt knowing that it is somewhere in the middle now.

So it had been a few weeks since I had really been grocery shopping. I have spent many weeks and weekends in Dallas. So once I had to run to the grocery store of course Market Street is where I went. I noticed right away the more recent changes.

The milk is now behind closed doors. They are in refrigerated coolers. The checkout counters are different too. They have been updated. I embrace these changes. The store looks brighter and more spacious with what they updated.

The store has a cleaner feel to it even though Market Street has NEVER been dirty. It just seems to all click. I am happy with the changes. I just wish they would bring back one green shopping cart just for me. Please.

Oh, and this project is still being completed. So keep an eye on what else they do to improve our Market Street.
