The Ghost of Geoffrey: Where Amarillo Families are Finding the Toys “R” Us Magic Again
Nothing is better than when you can feel a bit of nostalgia in Amarillo. We lost a bit of our childhood when Toys "R" Us closed down in our city and all around back in 2018. It was the one store where we felt we could get lost for days.
When we became parents, it was a great place to stop to find anything we needed for any birthday, Christmas, or any baby shower. They had anything that any kid needed. It felt like we lost a friend when we lost Geoffrey the Giraffe.
Then it seemed a miracle was happening. Some stores started to reopen. They were not the grandiose, full-fledged stores we were used to. That was okay. They were popping up in malls around the country.
The Grapevine Mills Connection: A Double Dose of Nostalgia
The closest one to us in Amarillo is found in Grapevine, Texas. All you have to do is plan a trip to Grapevine Mills Mall and hunt it down inside. That is what we did recently. We had a plan to go to the Dallas area.
Usually, that trip takes us to that mall anyway because we always stop for a meal at The Rainforest Cafe, as it is my granddaughter's favorite place. Then we walk around looking for the Disney Store. That mall hosts one of the very few remaining locations in the country.

As we were eating, I remembered that a Toys "R" Us had opened there as well. When I told my daughter, she said that we couldn't leave without finding it. The nostalgia was real. I was secretly excited to find it too. We wanted to introduce my granddaughter to the world of being a Toys "R" Us kid.
A Modern Revival: What the New Toys “R” Us Looks Like Inside
We found it, and it was loaded with toys just like we would expect. They also had a lot of Geoffrey the Giraffe merchandise as well. We couldn't help but be excited about that. Yes, it is worth the trip, even if it is not the standalone store we all loved growing up with.
It was just really nice to relive being that Toys "R" Us kid again.
