Amarillo’s Downtown Revival Earns National Recognition

Amarillo, full of rich history. Hub of Route 66. A place where historical buildings are celebrated and restored, not torn down and turned into a parking lot. We celebrate that history in so many ways.

It is the essence of Amarillo, and we have groups that make sure that comes out in everything we do. When people come downtown, the history is on full display. Why? We have a great group that makes sure it's not forgotten, but highlighted. Now, it is being recognized once again.

2027 Great American Main Street Contest

Main Street America does a contest each year, the Great American Main Street, where cities from all over the country are submitted and judged. They narrow these cities down, all smaller type of cities, based on a myriad of factors, not just beauty or history.

Things they look at in determining this are how much has been reinvested in the main street, how many businesses have been helped to open, how many jobs the area has created, how many buildings have been restored or renovated, and how many volunteer hours have been put in.

Amarillo Is A Semifinalist

Congratulations to Amarillo as we have found our way into the semifinals. Main Street America commended Amarillo on its different styles of architecture, highlighted the work they did to renovate the area, and also mentioned how HODGETOWN was an important development as it brings in 400,000 visitors to the area.

Now we get to sit back and wait for the finalists to be announced. Good job, Center City of Amarillo; you've done well.
