Little Big Town Perform Soaring Medley of Cher Hits at Kennedy Center Honors
Country stars turned out to honor Reba McEntire at the 2018 Kennedy Center Honors ceremony, but Little Big Town made an appearance at the show on Dec. 2 to pay tribute to pop icon Cher, another of the evening's honorees. The band appeared onstage to offer up their rendition of three iconic Cher hits, including "Gypsies, Tramps and Thieves," "I Found Someone" and "Baby Don't Go." The group kicked off their musical medley with the first verse and chorus of "Gypsies, Tramps and Thieves," and then smoothly transitioned into "I Found Someone," taking turns on lead vocals and coming together for a rich blend of harmonies in the chorus of each song.
Before the last portion of the medley, Little Big Town's Karen Fairchild addressed the honoree directly. "Cher, back when the four of us started out as a band, we used to listen to your music and this song all the time," Fairchild said. "And we're honored to sing for you tonight as a thank you for all the inspiration."
As Fairchild spoke, the rest of the band played the opening riffs of "Baby Don't Go" alongside her, and as she finished explaining the early impact Cher had on the group, they launched into a rousing performance of the 1964 hit, the crowd clapping along.
The 2018 Kennedy Center Honors ceremony took place on Dec. 2, 2018 at the Kennedy Center Opera House, where it was recorded for television broadcast. The two-hour special aired on Dec. 26 on CBS.
