I spend a lot of time scrolling through Facebook. I also spend a lot of time scrolling through news sites too. It comes with the job and I want to be in-the-know of what is happening around Amarillo.

It's crazy when those two worlds collide. Now I already knew that one of my friends was an author. I got to know Andrew J Brandt back when I worked for the Amarillo Sox. He would come out to the stadium and help us if we had any computer issues. We soon became fast friends.

Anytime I would have computer issues at home I would just text Andrew and see if he could solve my problems He always could. He is co-owner of Phone Medic of Amarillo. So I knew that he knew what he was doing. He would text me anytime he came out to enjoy an Amarillo Bulls game and I would run over and see him then too.

I had no idea, though, that he could write, too. I mean legit. He is a published author. I told him I would read his books. I have not forgotten that promise. So it was cool to see Andrew get some recognition on YAHOO! the other day. He has been nominated for Young Adult Book of the Year for his novel "Palo Duro" from the Mountain & Plains Independent Booksellers Association's "Reading the West" Awards. Yes, it takes place in Palo Duro Canyon. How cool is that?

This book actually had a stellar debut as the top best selling book on Amazon when it came out back in May of 2020. How cool is that? Scrolling through Amazon I see several different novels from Andrew. I can't get over the fact that I know a best selling author. I am in awe.

If you want to check out some of his writings you can check them out on Amazon. You can get to know a great author, friend and maybe award winner too. Amarillo has so much to offer and I am consistently blown away by things like this.
