Merle Haggard's struggle to recuperate following his bout of pneumonia has forced the country legend to cancel the remainder of his February tour dates.

"He is still feeling weak from his recent struggle with double pneumonia and has decided to seek further treatment for it,” publicist Tresa Redburn tells CMT, directing fans to Haggard's website for further updates and noting, “Merle is hopeful he will be back on the road later in the spring."

Haggard's canceled concerts include six shows scheduled in California and Nevada through mid-February, including a performance on Wednesday (Feb. 3) at the Saban Theatre in Beverley Hills, Calif., with Kris Kristofferson.

It’s been a tough few weeks for Haggard: He first postponed some December tour dates due to a bout of double pneumonia that sent him to the hospital and canceled two concerts in New Mexico in late January as he continued to recover. His decision to cancel his February tour dates follows a last-minute cancellation on Tuesday night (Feb. 2) at the Fox Performing Arts Center in Riverside, Calif.

In an interview in December, following his hospitalization, Haggard admitted that it was a very good thing he sought treatment when he did.

“I guess I was nearly dead,” Haggard explained. “They couldn’t tell whether I had cancer returned or whether I just had pneumonia. They had to wait until they got the pneumonia under control before we could tell.”
