Miranda Lambert on New Husband: ‘I’m Not Sad Anymore’
Miranda Lambert has plenty of sad country songs in her catalog, and she's not afraid to break them out in concert. However, something has changed about the way she performs her more blue-tinged compositions.
At a show at Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa in Atlantic City, N.J. Saturday (Aug. 31), Lambert told the crowd that, although she's a sucker for a good sad song, she's not personally in a morose mood anymore—thanks to a special person in her life.
"Lucky for me, I’m not in a sad time anymore in my life," she announced from the stage. "Thank you to my sweet husband — from Staten Island, by the way!”
Lambert was referring, of course, to new husband Brendan McLoughlin, a former New York police officer she secretly married earlier this year. "Even though I’m not sad anymore thanks to Brendan my husband, I still love a sad country song with all my heart," she added, "So I’m going to sing a sad one, if you want to get sad with me."
Lambert then launched into one of her most heartbreaking tunes, "Tin Man," from 2016's The Weight of These Wings, a work that drew largely from her 2015 divorce from first husband Blake Shelton.
Lambert and McLoughlin tied the knot during a private ceremony in January after dating for just a few months. He has a young son from a previous relationship. She had just come off of an up-and-down love life, dating the Turnpike Troubadors' Evan Felker when they met, and before that, Anderson East.
Lambert's new Wildcard album is slated for release Nov. 1. This will be her seventh studio album and first in three years.
