On January 1st of this year, a ban on plastic bags went into effect in Dallas.  This brings up the question, should Amarillo follow suit and ban single use plastic bags?

Last March the Dallas City Council passed a law that included restrictions on single use plastic bags.  The law was suppose to help eliminate the waste that is created by these bags, but all it did was cause a lot of confusion.

Dallas follows Austin, Brownsville and a few other town in Texas that already have the ban in place.  And while the idea behind the ban is great, a lot of people were left confused.  First off, it wasn't a ban so much as a 5 cent tax.  But there were exceptions and rules that people didn't even know about.

So, should Amarillo try and get a ban like this?  I get that these bags can cause a ton of waste, but I see this as a long shot at best.  There are too many gray areas.  But I'm curious to see what you think.  Take our poll below.
