Hodgetown has been relatively quiet this week as the Sod Poodles have been on the road. Next week, the boys are back in town and they will be celebrating the legacy of baseball in Amarillo.

Next week's home stand signals the end of the regular season coming up over the horizon. Next week is the second-to-last home stand of the season. It's hard to believe it's gone by this quickly.

Part of next week's home stand will be a celebration of the Gold Sox. I don't know how you could have forgotten the Gold Sox, but in case you have I'll remind you.

Before we had prairie dogs wearing cowboy hats and spurs we had the Gold Sox. The Gold Sox were active on and off from 1939 until 1982. They won several Minor League championships and played at Potter County Memorial Stadium.

Now, this isn't the same team in Amarillo that had what is absolutely one of the greatest mascot moments in Minor League history. That would be the Amarillo Sox.

Best case scenario, you knew about the history of the Gold Sox in Amarillo and recognized that the banana-looking, cap wearing mascot was a tip of the hat to that legacy. Worst case scenario, you howled with the rest of the nation when you noticed just how excited the mascot was to be there.

I would love for the Amarillo Sox mascot to make an appearance at Gold Sox Night next week, but I doubt we'll be so lucky.

Instead, the Sod Poodles will be wearing replica Gold Sox jerseys and will be auctioning them off, complete with autographs, after the game. Also, former members of the Gold Sox team will be in attendance.

For more information, check out the Sod Poodles website and be sure to follow them on social media.

Amarillo Landmarks: Negative Yelp Reviews

Yelp can be a strange and angry place. That's what I found out recently when I decided to sort the reviews by "lowest rating" first.

I was okay with the people upset over bad service and what not. But I came across a few reviews that, for lack of a better word, left me speechless in their scathing negative reviews on some of Amarillo's most iconic places. Prepare your self for plenty of head shaking and "I dunno" shrugs.
