As you and your family set out trick or treating this year, you may see something a little different-a teal pumpkin!  It is all part of the Teal Pumpkin Project and you are encouraged to participate.

Every year as we head out to trick or treat, my son gets so excited.  He secretly hopes that he get a lot of Snickers.  But some kids can't have Snickers because of a peanut allergy.  This year, the Food Allergy Research and Education organization, or F.A.R.E. wants all the kids to have the same amount of fun.

They are encouraging people to participate in the Teal Pumpkin Project.  It is to raise awareness and to 'start a new tradition.'  What you do is take a pumpkin and paint it teal.  You would then set it in front of your house.  This will let people or trick or treaters know that your house has non-food treats available.

F.A.R.E. doesn't want you to stop handing out candy, but to think of those kids who can't have a certain treat because of a food allergy.  Some idea of treats are glow sticks, vampire fangs, plastic spider rings, whistles, or even bouncy balls to name a few.

Do you think this is a good idea?
