A routine traffic stop transformed into so much more today in AmarilloAmarillo Police officers stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation at the 1500 block of S Grand.  Both a male and female suspect we arrested after APD officers located numerous items that appeared to have been stolen.  How does something "appear" stolen?  I wish I had an answer for that.

"On Tuesday October 1st at approximately 1:00 pm, APD officers stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation in the 1500 block of S Grand. After stopping the vehicle, the male driver was not able to produce a Drivers License or any proof of insurance. The driver was removed from the car and placed in the back seat of the patrol vehicle for further questioning. The female passenger was identified by an additional officer. After obtaining consent to search from the driver, officers located numerous items that appeared to have been stolen. Further investigation lead officers to recover personal property that had been stolen in 3 different residential burglaries. The property owners were contacted and came to the scene where they positively identified their personal belongings. Both occupants of the vehicle were taken to the Police Department for further questioning. After talking to detectives, both were transported to Randall County where they were booked into jail. Arrested were Jeremy Joe Gutierrez H/M 31 and Shyanne Lashay Brinkley W/F 19. Gutierrez was booked on 3 separate charges of Burglary of a Habitation and Brinkley was charged with one count of Burglary of a Habitation."

The incidents remain under investigation and additional charges are pending.
