I have a 14 year old and sometimes the things that I see pop up on her phone have me just scratching my head, Yes, I have come to terms with the fact that I'm not young anymore. I still get plenty of cool dad cred for the job and I'm fine with that. The new app she has is Voila AI artist and this looks like it's gonna be a thing for a minute. So far there have been north of 2.3 million downloads here in the US alone.

Even if you don't happen to have the Voila AI Artist app, which ill just shorten to voila for the rest of the story... you might have already seen it's results popping up in your social feeds the past few days. Our own digital editor Sarah decided to have a little fun at my expense. Frankly it might be the only time you ever see me wear Yankee pinstripes (I lost a bet.)

I'll admit it definitely has a Pixaresque look to it, Like I'm ready to jump into Frozen, Toy Story or even Tangled. but there's a few things you should know about the app before you or someone you're watching over downloads.

It's actually a subscription app.

The initial downloaded app does offer full functionality but there are ads that get served while your photo is being rendered, Here's the difference between this and most other purchase apps. It's not just a one time fee to remove them, the subscription is done on either a weekly or monthly basis in the neighborhood of $2-3 depending on your phone platform and if you don't use frequently it does add up. The subscription does not speed up render time, it just removes ads and the watermark that it places. A good idea is to make sure you turn off reoccurring payments on this unless you plan on going heavy with the app.

Privacy

The folks behind Voila also note that the app does collect data from your phone obviously it's going to get access to your album but not much else is known about what it collects other than info that helps you with targeting. The company also states that images are kept on the server 24-48hours at the most before disappearing.

Any of these apps are fun, just remember keep that payment in check
