What Is Your Favorite Spot On 6th Along Route 66 In Amarillo?
There's a lot going on along 6th Street in Amarillo. Of course, Route 66 markers and memorabilia are almost everywhere you look, but there's a lot more happening than just that.
Here's a glance a what's happening along 6th Street in Amarillo these days.
Yes, There Are A Ton Of Antique Stores On 6th Street
I hereby officially declare 6th Street as the antique capital of Amarillo. If you're looking for antiques, this stretch of road is the closest thing to heaven you'll find on Earth.
In all honesty, you'll find some really cool stuff down there. There's all kinds of odds-and-ends, oddities, and rarities.
I bought a Samsonite suitcase at one shop, which I promptly turned into a kick drum for my one-man-band setup.
Speaking of shopping, one of my favorite additions to 6th Street is High Fidelity, except it's not really an addition. They moved out of The Nat and into their own building, and it's great.
I recently went in and loved it. The owner was super nice, and I walked away spending more than I should have.
There Are Some Great Restaurants On 6th Street
I stopped into Blue Crane Bakery for the first time ever and decided to try out some of their gluten free options (my doctor said I had to make the switch). The food was fantastic, and I can't believe it's taken me this long to try that little bakery out.
There's also Bracero's if you're looking for Mexican food. Friends and neighbors, let me tell you, the food there is well worth the trip.
There's A Lot Of Live Music And Entertainment
Smokey Joe's, The Golden Light, The Broken Spoke, The Handle Bar and Grill...the list goes on. There's a lot of dining options, and there's a lot of options when it comes to entertainment.
If you're looking for live music, there's a good chance you'll find some on 6th.
One of the most interesting things to check out, when it comes to entertainment, is the open mic night at The 806. If you like coffee or craft beer and you want to see something unique, go check that one out.
The last time I went, there was an eclectic mix of slam poetry, standup comedy, and live music...most of which was performed by people who sounded like they wanted to grow up to be in a Soundgarden cover band; which is cool if that's their dream.
Keep An Eye Out For Murals
They're everywhere and some of them are easy to miss if you aren't paying attention. There's a lot going on down on 6th Street. Take a moment to appreciate the art.
Take a look at these photos of the odd, weird, wonderful things you'll see on 6th Street; my favorite stretch of road in Amarillo.
