The XIT ranch is a piece of fascinating Panhandle history. The XIT Ranch was a Cattle Ranch stretching over ten counties here in West Texas which operated from 1885 to 1912. Comprising over 3,000,000 acres of land, it ran for 200 miles along the border with New Mexico, varying in width from 20 to 30 miles, and at its peak regularly handled 150,000 head of cattle.

The Hartley County Historic Commission is hosting the XIT General Office Cowboy Christmas in July Saturday July 13th at 517 Main Street in Channing, with the kickoff at 4pm.

Dinner will be served from an authentic chuckwagon at 5:30, North Plains Groundwater will be serving tea donated by HteaO.

A kid’s rodeo will be featured with a stick horse barrel race, a boot race, dummy roping and more. Sonic in Dumas is donating prizes for the kids.

Cowboy music performed by RW Hampton will be live at 4pm and then at 7 Eloy Gonzales will play for a street dance.

There will also be a live auction with several historical guns and knives.

Entrance to the event is by donation. The main purpose is to share the XIT General Office with everyone and help make new memories for the building. Additionally, the goal is to raise enough funds for a new roof on the building.
