Back to School in Amarillo: How to Prep for a Smooth Start

Summer is almost over, which means it is back-to-school time in Amarillo. Teachers have already started going back to their classrooms to prepare for the new school year.  Kids are starting to stress because they are starting a new school, going to school for the first time, or entering their final year.

Going back to school can be both exciting and scary.  Either way, it's coming and coming fast.  We are a few weeks away from the first day of school, and it's time to get the kids ready.

What to Do Weeks Before School Starts

During the summer, routines become more lax, schedules are less full, and things are more laid back.  But with the school year starting, you need to get the kids back into routines and ready to hit the books.

This time of year brings a mix of excitement and anxiety.  Anxiety will rise, but if you are prepared and your kids are prepared, back to school will be a breeze.

Keep in mind, if you have prepared your children for the first day of school, it will also make the day go a lot smoother for the teachers. Tired and grumpy children do not make for a good first day of school, so make sure they have a good night's sleep and a good breakfast.

Back to School Shopping With the Kids

Set aside a day for school supply shopping and another for picking out new clothes. Let your kids be part of the planning; it builds excitement and gives them some control over the process.

Why Meet the Teacher Events Matter

Make sure to attend all meetings and Meet the Teacher events. This helps your child know who their teacher will be and not meet a stranger the first day of school.  They also learn the classroom location and what is expected in the new school year.
