The floods in Central Texas have devastated many families. Among the hardest hit are the families of children from Camp Mystic. As the relief efforts continue in Kerrville, the search continues for the missing campers, and one of those campers has ties to Amarillo.

Local Families Feel the Impact of Camp Mystic Flooding

The Aunt of one of the campers missing from Camp Mystic is a resident of Amarillo.  However, out of respect for the family's wishes and privacy, they requested that we remove the names. We were also informed that another Amarillo family lost their granddaughter in the floods.

As Amarilloans, we are mourning the loss of life in this tragedy, and we are lifting our prayers and good thoughts and sending them to the families who are still awaiting the news of their loved ones.

We Should All Come Together for Our Fellow Texans in Central Texas

In times like these, beliefs aside, compassion unites us. As human beings, we all need to come together for these families, whether through prayer, positive energy, or simply offering words of hope and encouragement.

Texans and people worldwide united when the Texas Panhandle was experiencing one of the most devastating wildfires in history, and now is the time we need to come together for these families who have lost loved ones and homes.

How Many Have Died in the Central Texas Floods?

At the time of publishing, over 100 people have lost their lives in this flood, and many are still unaccounted.

How to Support Texas Flood Relief Efforts

The Amarillo Fire Department deployed Engine 41 on Sunday, July 6, to help with the rescue efforts. This team included 4 TIFMAS All-Hazards firefighters.

If you want to donate to the relief efforts, the Amarillo Area Foundation suggested making donations to the Kerr County Flood Relief Fund through the Community Foundation of Texas Hill Country.

Texas Tragedy: Devastating Images from the Texas Hill Country and Guadalupe River Flooding

A tragedy in Texas in Texas continues to unfold as rescue works continue their search to find victims of the flooding in central Texas. The number of deaths continue to rise and are expected to soar past 100 as more bodies are found and identified. Sadly, at least 28 children have been confirmed dead, many who were attending the all-girls Camp Mystic. Most of the fatalities as of this writing have been reported in Kerr County.
