Amarillo Hasn’t Seen a White Christmas in a Decade
White Christmas is a song we all know. 🎵 I'm dreaming of a white Christmas 🎵 Most people do dream of a white Christmas. Waking up on Christmas morning and seeing the blanket of snow on the ground is a magical moment.

Amarillo has seen a few White Christmases but it has been a decade since we last had one. How do I know? Well, I reached out to our resident expert on the weather, KAMR Local 4's John Harris, and asked him when Amarillo last had a white Christmas. What better way to get an answer than straight from the horse's mouth?
He did some research for me and reached out to the National Weather Service and found out that the last time Amarillo has seen a white Christmas was in 2012, when we got 2 inches of snow on Christmas Day.
It seems that it's time Amarillo saw another white Christmas.
A historical look at White Christmases in Amarillo is interesting. in 2011 Amarillo received 4.2 inches of snow, however, we didn't wake up to snow, it accumulated over the day.
And then, the last time Amarillo woke up to a snowy Christmas Day was in 2009 when we received 1 inch of snow overnight. Then in 2004, we got 3 inches; and in 2002 there were 4 inches of snow.
If history repeats itself, Amarillo could see snow on Christmas in 2022. By this, I mean we had a white Christmas in 2012 and in 2002. The trend could very well continue!
I asked John to look into his weather crystal ball to see if we could possibly get a white Christmas.
Hi Lori, only a 20% chance for any given year.
Darn.
But there you have it, there's a 20% chance of a white Christmas this year. I don't know about you, but it would be great to see a snowy white layer on the Amarillo ground this year.
