One of the things I don't have in my house very often is sweets. I love them and I feel keeping sweet snacks would be the death of me. That has been the one complaint from my daughter when she is at my house.

No dessert. Nothing to snack on. To be fair I think not having any is actually helping her too. She spends a lot of time at the gym. That is her favorite place to be. So why wreck her progress?

So when I ran to the store the other day I asked if there was anything she wanted me to grab while I was there. She gave me a couple of things to add to the list. She did not add any ice cream, she didn't add any cookies or cakes.

I was surprised. I reminded her not to complain to me when she is craving something. So she came back and edited her request just a bit. She wanted something sweet to go with the fruit that I had on the list.

A Healthy Way to Have an After Dinner Snack

She asked about a healthy caramel for her to dip her fruit in. So I was trying to think. I didn't want to just buy a container of caramel. I am a bit more than that. I remembered seeing a recipe using my Instant Pot.

I am all about making things that I know exactly what is in the recipe. I love to make homemade yogurt because of that. I didn't understand how this actually worked but I was going to try it out.

The recipe is for Dulce De Leche. If you ever had it just tastes like caramel. Oh and the easiest thing in the world to make.

Basically, you buy a can of sweetened condensed milk. That is all you need. Well, that and water and your Instant Pot.

I made it last night and it was the best. I took that can of sweetened condensed milk and peeled the label off. I placed that can in the Instant Pot on the trivet.

Next, I filled the Instant Pot up with water until it reached the middle of the can. I sealed the pot. I hit the manual button and set it for forty minutes. Then I just walked away.

About an hour later I opened up the pot and used tongues to remove the can. Be careful it is hot. I then put that can in the fridge to cool off. While that was happening I cleaned and got the strawberries and bananas ready to eat.

When I opened up what once was a can of sweetened condensed milk, there sat creamy golden brown Dulce De Leche now. I don't know the science behind this. I just know it is magical.

My daughter was impressed because I got her what she wanted. A nice dessert that was still relatively healthy.
