Amarillo Native Involved in the Super Bowl Sunday Flyover
Amarillo is home to many people. People who continue to call Amarillo home, or those who have spread their wings and call Amarillo their hometown.
One of those Amarillo natives is a woman by the name of Rhiannon Sellinger.
Sellinger is a 2015 graduate of Highland Park High School. She is currently a Petty Officer 2nd Class in the United States Navy, and she is doing big things.
“I grew up in a large family that values connection and quality time,” said Sellinger. “This provided me the tools to build genuine friendships with people from around the world that I met because of the Navy.”
Sellinger joined the Navy just out of high school, seven years ago, and she currently serves as an aviation electrician's mate.
Because of her job in the Navy, Sellinger is one of the sailors that maintains the aircraft for Electronic Attack Squadron 129 who will be participating in the flyover that will happen during the Super Bowl. According to the Navy Office of Outreach, this year the formation will include two F/A-18F Super Hornets from “Flying Eagles” of Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 122, a F-35C Lightning II from "Argonauts" of Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 147, and a EA-18G Growler from “Vikings” Electronic Attack Squadron (VAQ) 129.
“I joined the Navy to experience new things and because I wanted to serve my country,” said Sellinger.
Sellinger will continue to train and perform missions as a Petty Officer 2nd Class in the United States Navy, but in the meantime, we have another reason to celebrate the Super Bowl this Sunday and that is knowing that one of our Hometown Heroes is part of the mission that helps maintain these magnificent jets that will flyover State Farm Stadium in Arizona.
