
Amarillo’s Street Heroes Take Down Potholes in Seconds
The bane of any Amarillo driver's existence is the pothole. Unfortunately, anywhere you drive in Amarillo, you will probably encounter a pothole. Some potholes are small, while others can swallow a small sedan. No matter the size of the pothole, the City of Amarillo is doing its best, and they have a team of employees who fix potholes.
With the recent rain Amarillo has received, rest assured, the potholes are making their move to make your drive miserable.
The City of Amarillo Pot Hole Avengers
The City of Amarillo has special trucks that can repair potholes at a superhero speed, or in human terms, in a matter of seconds.

These special trucks are called the DuraPatcher Pothole Repair Trucks.
Because of this machine and those operating it, the evil potholes around the city are meeting their fate with a beautiful, smooth patch.
We can now fill a pothole in a matter of seconds, depending on the size of the pothole, said Paul Lundegreen, a Utility Worker with the COA Street Department.
How Much Did the City Spend on These Trucks?
The City of Amarillo has 3 of these machines, making pothole repair more convenient. The City purchased these machines for $923,445 in August 2024 after the approval of the City Council.

How Does the DuraPatcher Truck Work?
According to the City of Amarillo, the operator uses a control stick inside of the cab (similar to a video game controller), they guide a nozzle in the front of the truck to clean the pot hole with compressed air, applies an emulsion tack coat, and fills the pot hole with aggregate, and then applies a cover of dry aggregate on top. Within minutes, traffic can once again drive over the spot.
The trucks are working pretty good for us,” said Emilio Aguilera, Equipment Operator I with the COA Street Department. “Actually, they are working very well.
Why Amarillo Needed a Faster Fix for Potholes
Before the trucks, the COA was only able to repair 20 potholes per day.
