Now that fall is making its way into the Texas Panhandle, that means all things spiders are moving inside. During the summer, they tend to hang outside and bask in the sun up in the trees and the corner eaves of your houses, woodpiles, etc.  But the minute the word fall is mentioned, all those dang spiders want to move indoors.

I completely understand that there are good spiders, I'm looking at your Mr. Wolf, but the not-so-good spiders that love my yard, want in my house.

Seriously, I was cooking the other night and a spider scurried across my backsplash.  Then when I tried to smash it, it got away, waited a few minutes, and scurried back across.  I bleached the backsplash and scurried my rear end out of the kitchen.  Then had the house sprayed.

Here's Some Tips on Dealing with Spiders Wanting to Move In

  1. Add 5 drops of peppermint oil with water in a 16 oz spray bottle and spray around your doors and windows inside and out.  Spiders hate peppermint.
  2. Seal up any holes or cracks where they can sneak in.
  3. Mix 1 cup of vinegar with 3 cups of water in a spray bottle and spray around your doors and windows.
  4. Plant mint around the exterior of the house next Spring (won't work now, but it will next year)
  5. Clean - vacuum, dust, and clean up all spiderwebs.
  6. Make sure they don't have a food source.
  7. If all else fails or you just don't want to mess with it, Call an Exterminator.

Good luck!
