Amarillo has been called a lot of things.  A few off the top is Yellow City, Bomb City, the city George Strait sings about, but one of the things that it isn't known as is ghetto.

However, a new video floating around calls Amarillo one of the most ghetto cities in Texas.

What Does Ghetto Mean?

According to the Dictionary, a ghetto is defined as a poor urban area occupied primarily by a minority group or groups.

For one Amarillo is filled with a wide variety of people, and although as with most cities, you will find impoverished areas in all cities.  However, that doesn't make the entire city "ghetto".

It makes one wonder where these content creators get their information or if they just pull it out of thin air because the cities named are not bigger cities.

Amarillo Lands at #3 for the Most Ghetto City in Texas

According to geoviewusa on TikTok, Amarillo was named third for the most ghetto city in Texas.  Coming in at #2 was San Angelo, and Wichita Falls came in at #1.  They call these the most ghetto cities in Texas but don't tell you why.

According to Amarillo National Bank's Economic Forecast, Amarillo can expect steady job growth in 2025 and a growth in retail sales.  Amarillo has a very low unemployment rate, 2.6%, and a low cost of living compared to other cities across the county.   That hardly screams ghetto.

Again, I think the purpose of these videos is to get views and get people commenting or arguing.

What do you think?  Is Amarillo "ghetto"?

Amarillo Landmarks: Negative Yelp Reviews

Yelp can be a strange and angry place. That's what I found out recently when I decided to sort the reviews by "lowest rating" first.

I was okay with the people upset over bad service and what not. But I came across a few reviews that, for lack of a better word, left me speechless in their scathing negative reviews on some of Amarillo's most iconic places. Prepare your self for plenty of head shaking and "I dunno" shrugs.
