Amarillo’s Tucker Davidson Traded as Deadline Neared
If you are a baseball fan you always have high hopes when the Trade Deadlines are near. Tuesday evening was that deadline. You hope that you get some good players, especially if you are a playoff contender.
You also have to hope you don't lose some of your favorites. That is where I was Tuesday evening. I was out walking three miles with a friend when I received the text I was dreading.
Being a huge Atlanta Braves fan I was excited when they signed Tucker Davidson a few years ago. My daughter went to high school at Tascosa with him. So getting to watch him on my favorite team was great.
I got to see him start his first game. I got to see him start his first World Series game. I got to see him win a World Series ring. I got to watch Tucker as he got his first win earlier this season.
It has been a roller coaster ride as Tucker kept going back and forth between Atlanta and Gwinnett Stripers, their minor league team. So I knew as we were looking to get our post-season team solid that he may be in danger.
Then that text came out. I was still hoping my friend got it wrong, even though deep down I knew that wasn't going to be the case.
I found the press release when I got home:
The thing I hate is that Tucker went from a World Series team to a team in the American League that is nearly in last place. Oh, and the fact that he is now in the American League too. I am jealous that he will be moving to sunny California. He is moving to a team that definitely needs some pitching. This move will be good for him because he will be getting the starts he needs.
Don't worry Tucker, I still have the MLB package so I will be watching for you to get back up to the majors. I will still be watching your starts. I will be rooting for you from here in Amarillo.
