Amarillo is full of great restaurants; some are local, some are chains. We've had a lot of our local restaurants close while others have shone and are moving to a new location. We love it when one of our favorite eateries is expanding.

Back in 2024, we shared that Bangkok Tokyo was getting a new location. A bigger location to serve up all their amazing dishes and sushi. That is finally happening. After 2 years, it looks as if construction and remodeling will start on the former BL Bistro/Grill Italia building at 2203 S. Austin Street.

Recently, Bangkok Tokyo showed up again on the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation website. They have a new location they will be moving into, so we spoke with Konwisa Nawasriporn, founder and chef-owner of Bangkok Tokyo, and she told us that the property was purchased in 2023 to be the new home for Bangkok Tokyo.

We have been working on a drawing on floor plan and renovation with the project team including, achitect, engineer and the project contractor since last year and finally the plan was submitted to the city last week.

Renovation, Cost, and Timeline

They are still waiting on a few things and a permit from the city to begin. The new location will be 4,097 sq. ft. The remodel includes new restrooms with additional kitchen and bar areas.

Total renovations will cost around $400,000.

A New Chapter After 15 Years in Amarillo

The original idea for this project is to make it to be a better version of Bangkok Tokyo, after 15 years of being a part of community it is a time to make it convenient to our customers and expanding working space for our crews.

Nawasriporn told us they are aiming for the new location to be done and open in summer 2027.

I just let the project flow to the way it should but it will be a while until it fully finished and ready to be occupied.

Here's another reason for Amarillo to celebrate: one of the favorite restaurants in town will soon have a bigger location. On another positive note, at least you'll know you won't have to go outside to get to the restaurant's bathrooms once the new location is open.
