A once magnificent building in Downtown Amarillo has sat empty and dilapidated for decades. Promises of a remodel, and big dreams surrounded the building for many years but never came to fruition.  Now, the Barfield Building is getting a major facelift.

The building located at 6th and Polk was built in 1926.  It has gone through many owners and many remodel promises, like luxurious lofts, and more.  However, none of the great ideas to bring the building back ever happened until now, the building will be turned into a boutique style hotel.

According to the architecture firm Architexas:

The proposed development plan is to adapt the building to a boutique hotel with accompanying related hospitality functions. It is planned to have 110 guest rooms, restaurant, and event accommodations. The adjacent vacant property was acquired to allow for the construction of a 130 car parking garage and amenity roof deck that includes a fitness center, full service bar and a signature pool.

The boutique style hotel they are speaking of will be a part of Marriott's Autograph Collection.

Coury Hospitality, a hotel management partner, lists The Barfield under their portfolio page on their website.

It looks like Downtown Amarillo is growing,  flourishing and keeping its historic roots.

Now if only they would remodel the Herring Hotel then all would be well with the world.
