Not too long ago Canyon ISD's kimbrough stadium got some major upgrades and a new name, Happy State Bank Stadium. the 20,000 seat stadium has become a major source of pride and a worthwile investment in the community for the folks of Canyon and with that comes opportunities for private events to take place.

The Randall County District Attorney has decided to make this an issue by questioning weather or not alcohol can be sold, purchased or consumed on the grounds. I get it. There's already rules established by the University Interscholastic League that covers this at game day and in the stands at athletic events being hosted by the school district. the answer there is already no. No biggie there, I'm with him on that one.

But when it comes to private events at the Banquet Facility there's a bit of a gray area here. At question by the D.A, who is asking Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, is does this banquet hall count as a "Building of a Public School" which would mean that Alcohol cannot be served here as it is part of a campus.

I'm not a legal expert by any means. The stadium's primary purpose is athletic events, nowhere in here are there education facilities or the means for education to take place in a ready convenient manner. There's no classrooms here, instruction is not provided at this location. It's a stadium. Honestly if the district wants to charge a premium to deal with alcohol that's on them. If the D.A. wants to make a stink of it that's within his rights too.

Look the idea of a student attending a game watching grownups get ripped a few feet away is never a good thing, and I would think that the folks at CISD could manage to keep these events properly scheduled to avoid such incidents. I would also imagine that there would be systems in place to keep students out of these areas if said booze were present.

Maybe I'm wrong here but if the money charged for the rentals ultimately helps keep the facilities up or provides access to equipment that may not normally get funding whats the big deal?

Check Out The Original Names For These Amarillo Streets

It's hard to imagine these well-known Amarillo streets as any other name. Try to imagine giving directions to someone while using their original names. Gets tricky, doesn't it?

The new names (that we currently know them by) came mostly from associates of Henry Luckett, who drew the first map of the area. When this took place exactly, records do not show, but the street name revamp is covered extensively in 'Old Town Amarillo' by Judge John Crudgington, published in the Plains Historical Review in 1957.
